Welcome.

Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, Inc. is a new chamber choir based in the Saratoga region of upstate New York. We are building on the strong tradition of choral singing in the area and seeking to expand the field of quality performances and singing opportunities for the many talented choristers in the region.

With a wide variety of compelling and evocative a cappella repertoire, we hope to challenge and inspire our singers as we work together to build a premier chamber choir this region deserves. Pending selections include Howells: Requiem, Parry: Songs of Farewell, Schoenberg: Friede auf Erden, and more.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Typically, auditions will be held in three (3) parts and consist of the following:

1. Sing full range on scales and arpeggios on open vowels, demonstrating tone, intonation, and vocal range

2. The hymn Amazing Grace, accompanied in an appropriate key for your voice type

3. A technical excerpt, a cappella, in a foreign language

The excerpts will be available upon request when scheduling your audition and will be taken from our planned repertoire for the upcoming season. We also ask that you complete a short form inquiring about your vocal experience and education – if applicable.

We are looking for fully vaccinated, quality vocalists with experience in high-level music-making and an enthusiastic willingness to engage in our mission.  From Victoria to Hindemith, our repertoire will require dedication and focus in practice at home and in rehearsals.  Every voice counts!  The ensemble is seeking 24 to 28 singers in total for our first season.
