Welcome.

Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in the State of New York, and approved as a tax-exempt organization by the IRS under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, Inc. is a small vocal chamber ensemble performing in the Saratoga Springs region of New York State. We’ve chosen our name from the Latin definition of “Excelsior,” meaning “higher.” Our goal is to provide our musicians, audiences, and community with an elevated choral experience that celebrates our intentionally curated music and shines the spotlight on our highly talented musicians and accomplished young conductor.

We are excited to focus on a cappella literature, a repertoire that few choirs chose to perform as their “primary repertoire.” Complemented with the masterworks of the canon, from those by Vaughan Williams and Howells to Bruckner and Hindemith, our performances promise to commemorate and bring forth historic, majestic, and rarely performed great works.

Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, Inc. and our esteemed conductor are committed to literally “singing the praises” of those complex works too often relegated to the far corners of dusty musical collections. We challenge our artists and audiences to rise to the occasion of these pieces and invite you to embrace these remarkable works.

The decision to keep our ensemble small allows each of our vocalists to have their voices be heard and their contributions valued and appreciated. By bringing together a select and harmonious balance of dedicated and talented musicians, Excelsior Vocal Ensemble, Inc. gives our audiences the special gift of high-caliber, premier, and intimate performances with every note.

Fun Fact: “Excelsior” is the noted catch phrase of comic book legend Stan Lee. His ethos brought about the popularization of the definition “ever upward.” We hope you will join us as we strive to present performances that bring our vocalists and audiences to new musical heights.
